Which program is right for my child?
The Averill Park Youth Soccer League offers a variety of levels of play for school-age children in our community. Our goal is to encourage young players to learn and love the game of soccer and prepare them for school soccer when they reach middle school. Our recreational programs, offered in Fall and Spring, help children ages 4-15 (4-12 for Spring rec) learn the basics of soccer- teamwork, fundamental skills, etc. while having fun with their friends and classmates. Teams are co-ed, coached by volunteers, with a focus on equal playing time and the opportunity to try all different positions. Local high school students referee the games. Recreational soccer is appropriate for players of all skill levels, from beginners to skilled players who still enjoy a recreational setting to compete with and against their classmates. These programs rely on parents, parental figures, grandparents, and other relatives and friends to help coach- it’s a great way for you to show community support! For more specific information about each season, see below.
For players seeking a higher level of competition and training, we also offer a travel soccer program for children ages 6-18. Playing on these teams requires a greater financial and time commitment. Registration and additional fees include the cost of professional trainer, indoor training space (in the winter), Afrims/other facility fees, and uniforms. The travel teams receive professional training and coaching from parents or professionals who have received specific training on the developmental aspects of soccer. Teams are typically gender-specific at the U10 level and older (in cases where we do not have enough players of one gender to form a team, a co-ed team may be organized to allow kids to play) . A child wishing to play on one of our competitive teams should have mastered basic soccer skills and must be willing to work hard to improve.
